NATS have launched a brand new online training scheme for hobbyist drone users on their website in order to raise awareness of the drone safety rules.

This animated online course is available free of charge on their website and is designed to offer new drone users and hobbyists to gain an overview of the current UK drone safety rules and regulations.  It also tests users on their understanding and reinforces their learning by featuring a series of interactive quiz questions around the most important elements of flying a UAV.

Whilst the animated approach seems to offer a light hearted and engaging way for users to become familiar with the material, there can be no doubt that there is a serious safety message at the heart of it all.  Informed and responsible use of the airspace by drone pilots, especially hobbyists who don’t have to pass the same rigorous tests as commercial pilots, is fundamental to maintain safety standards as well as to encourage a more positive public opinion.
